🛒 What’s buzzin’ in marketing?

Twitter. More than 500 advertisers ran away from Twitter after Musk’s takeover. But Musk has not given up yet and is going on a war with third-party tools by banning them from access to Twitter API. Among the affected clients are Tweetbot, Twitterrific and Birdie. Reason? Twitter rules violation. Don’t ask us - tweet Elon for more details. On the brighter side of things, Twitter announced expanding display of Community Notes in retweeted posts to give users more context. More visible context.
TikTok. Is testing a new “Podcasts” feature that allows users to continue listening to a program while TikTok runs in the background. Yes, it is a bit unusual way to do but let’s see how it lands. What is TikTok aiming to achieve? Probably it wants to tap into a new ad revenue stream. Ad spend on podcasts is expected to reach $2,25 billion this year, according to Insider Intelligence.
AI in marketing. If you are a copywriter, or someone who creates catchy headlines for your brand, you might find this Tweet very useful. Facebook. Gives teens more control over what ads they see. Starting in March, teenagers will have more ways to manage the types of ads they see on Facebook and Instagram with Ad Topic Controls. Nice, anything else? Yup - beginning in February, advertisers will only be able to use age and location to reach teens. Facebook is removing gender as a targeting option. 1️⃣ The genesis of Genesis’ failure

The lending unit of crypto firm Genesis filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on Thursday. The company, owned by venture capital firm Digital Currency Group (DCG), clarified that Genesis Global Trading and other subsidiaries within the derivatives-trading area remain solvent and continue operating.

As direct factors determining Genesis’ failure, experts mention high exposure to now-bankrupt Three Arrows Capital and Alameda Research assets. The most recent fight against Gemini’s Winklevoss brothers over the Earn program, as well as SEC’s charges for violating securities law certainly has not helped Genesis recover.

2️⃣ How to conquer the bear market?

Half a year after the launch of the first version, Logium launched a new one, designed for the so-called degens, a subgroup of crypto traders who invest in highly volatile altcoins and often seek to speculate on “sell-the-news” events.

There are a couple of decentralized platforms that help you earn money even in the crypto winter. Logium is one of them. It allows you to take or create bets on almost every token available on Uniswap. Down or up, it doesn't really matter. If you can predict the future value of a given crypto, you can bet against other users, use multipliers and earn in USDC.

3️⃣ Hell of a blockchain use case

Mendocino Clone Company (MCC), a California-based nursery that breeds and produces medical cannabis, has joined the EMTRI Project to track its weed along the supply chain.

The mechanism will rely on smart contracts generated for each batch of cloned plants. Each seedling will receive a “unique identity block” based on Ethereum. MCC clients will use it to verify authenticity of the product and its genetic origin. The first round of certificates will be available early in February.

Although this use case for blockchain is really cool, our readers should know that there are other companies trying to link the marijuana market with web3, such as Cannaland (meta marketplace for cannabis) or BitCanna (decentralized payments for cannabis producers).

4️⃣ Metaverse Seoul is live!

The Seoul government kickstarted its metaverse expansion in 2023 by launching “Metaverse Seoul” - a virtual world for South Korean citizens, which is part of the governmental strategy called “Digital New Deal”.

The three-part project, scheduled for completion by 2026, will offer a range of services typically provided by municipal authorities, such as issuing proof of citizenship, tax and business counseling, complaint filing, as well as avatar-based education and mentoring for teens and adolescents.

According to the Capgemini report, the metaverse market size may reach $1 trillion by 2030, and current market capitalization of metaverse tokens exceeds $12 billion.
